The most special part about adopting from Catoro that makes the experience completely different from adopting anywhere else is the interaction that you get to have with our cats. Although thousands of shelters do amazing work rescuing cats, it is never a truly fair and honest experience in meeting a cat when they are kept in a cage and living in fear. All the cats at Catoro, regardless of their background, get to roam free and be their true selves. We have countless stories of cats that were once shelter cats and had been overlooked by potential adopters for months because of just their looks while in a cage. But once they arrived at Catoro, they were almost immediately adopted due to their amazing and unique personalities! This is truly the most magical part of coming to Catoro, getting to bond with an unexpected cat and making a new friend. See the cats we have here.
When you're ready to adopt, we ask that you visit our adoption page to review the steps and costs. You can see the page here. Then please email email@example.com and we will send you the link to our application form. We will then review your application and call you to setup an in-person application if it has been conditionally approved. When you come in, we review a few further qualification questions and answer any additional questions you have at that time. We will contact you within 48 hours after your interview to let you know the final decision and to setup your pick-up if we've approved you. Please expect the entire process to take between 3-7 business days to complete as we do our due diligence reviewing your application.
Adoptions fees range depending on the age of the cat. Kittens are $250, Teens $225, Adults $200, and Seniors are by donation. More information can be found here.
At Catoro, we take extra precautions when bringing in a cat to ensure they are fully vaccinated and checked over to prevent any risk of illness. Cat Therapy hosts adoption interviews every Tuesday and Thursday evening at Catoro. Before you can come for this, you must submit an online application and be approved for an interview first. We recommend that you submit an application as soon as you are interesting in adoption and expect about 3-7 business days from start to finish if everything goes smoothly. If you are ready to apply, please see the adoption page here.
You are welcome to submit an application for any cat you want. However it is strongly recommended to meet the cat first before adopting so you will know if they are the right fit for you and your home. Many people plan to adopt a cat just based on appearance or breed and are surprised when the cat is not how they thought they would be. It's always good to keep an open mind when you come to Catoro, you never know which cat you might connect with most! If you're ready to adopt, click here!
Any person that applies to adopt a cat and we schedule an interview for. We would move that cat to "pending interview" so that others know that this cat may be adopted soon. But there is still cases where interviews do not go well or people change their mind and go for a different cat. Please still submit an application even if the cat shows as pending and you will be contacted as the next person on the wait list if that cat becomes available again. Apply here!
We receive many new cats each week and our team do their absolute best to keep up to date with adding new cats to our website. If you're not sure which cat it is, please send us a photo of the cat and an email with any questions you may have to firstname.lastname@example.org
At Catoro, weekends are quite busy and normally fully booked. Our weekdays are much more suitable if you're seriously considering adoption. There are typically not too many people in during the day and you can stay longer for less. Feel free to book an time to come visit here.
We STRONGLY urge all new adopters to take their cat to VCA Cats Only Vet Clinic within the first 5 days after adoption to get a checkup. This is the only time where you can return your cat to us for a full refund.
Catoro & Cat Therapy does its best to screen for any signs of illness. Although we already perform more tests than most shelters since the cats are in a higher density environment, we still cannot detect all possible illnesses. We are not a breeder where we have full medical records for each cat since birth. Our cats are coming from serious and severe conditions where the alternative would have been death or euthanasia. We hope you understand the risk and responsibility associated with caring for a rescue cat.
After adoption, someone from Catoro will follow up with you to check on how your cat is settling in. Moving homes is a very stressful time for cats and is usually the first cause for minor sicknesses after adopting. It also may take them a few days to adjust and get back to their regular eating and bathroom routine. Please email us at email@example.com if you have any concerns after adopting.
With all of our adoptions, the health and safety of the cats is our number one priority. Because it is very easy adopters to give the right answer, but not actually tell the truth, we cannot disclose why we are denying an application. It is too easy for an adopter to take the "right" or "ideal" answers to apply with the next rescue they deal with and get approved just by saying what they want to hear.
We are committed to educating the public on feline welfare as much as possible, however there will always be certain people who will adopt and disregard all of the best practices and do things that put a cat in harms way.

When you adopt your new cat. This can be a stressful time for them as they're being displaced. We strongly recommend to at least use one bag or 12 cans of their existing food to transition them to whichever food you decide to feed them to put the least amount of stress on them and to avoid having them not eat when they enter your home. At Catoro, we believe in feeding our cats the best quality food we can find to keep them healthy and happy. Everything we offer online is what we feed our cats in store.
The leading cause of feline death is kidney failure. We strongly recommend to all cat owners to feed at least 2 wet meals per day to ensure your cat gets enough moisture in their diet. It is best to free feed and leave out a bowl of dry food at all times especially if you’re gone during the day. See the food here.
